How to Get Here: International Travelers ✈️

1. Check Visa Requirements for Bangladesh

Most international travelers require a visa to enter Bangladesh. It is highly recommended to obtain your visa in advance from a Bangladeshi Embassy or Consulate in your home country.

General Requirements for Visa Application typically include:

  • Completed online application form (available on www.visa.gov.bd).

  • Valid passport with at least six months of validity beyond your intended stay.

  • Recent passport-sized photographs with a white background.

  • Proof of payment for the visa fee (fees vary by nationality).

  • Additional documents may be required based on your visa category (e.g., tourist, business, work).

  • Visa on Arrival (VOA): While VOA is available for citizens of certain countries under specific conditions, it's generally advised against for smooth and stress-free entry. Always check the latest visa regulations with your nearest Bangladeshi diplomatic mission before travel.

2. Flights to Bangladesh

Your journey to Sunamganj will typically begin with an international flight to one of Bangladesh's major international airports:

  • Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (DAC), Dhaka: This is the largest and busiest airport in Bangladesh, offering the widest range of international connections from around the world.

  • Osmani International Airport (ZYL), Sylhet: This is the most convenient airport for reaching Sunamganj directly. While it has fewer direct international flights than Dhaka, it offers direct connections from cities in Europe (e.g., London, Manchester) and the Middle East (e.g., Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha).

  • Shah Amanat International Airport (CGP), Chittagong: Located further south, this airport is less convenient for direct travel to Sunamganj.

Recommendation: For the most direct route to Sunamganj, aim to fly into Sylhet Osmani International Airport (ZYL) if direct flights are available from your origin. Otherwise, flying into Dhaka (DAC) and then taking a domestic flight or ground transport to Sylhet is a common alternative.

3. From Sylhet Osmani International Airport (ZYL) to Sunamganj

Once you arrive at Sylhet Osmani International Airport (ZYL), Sunamganj is approximately a 1 to 1.5-hour drive (around 60-70 km).

  • Taxi/Private Car: The most convenient and recommended way to reach Sunamganj from ZYL is by hiring a private taxi or pre-arranging a car service. This offers comfort and direct travel. The estimated cost for a taxi can range from $30 - $45 USD.

  • Local Transport (Bus): While local buses operate from Sylhet city to Sunamganj, they are generally less comfortable and might be challenging for international travelers with luggage. You would need to take a taxi from the airport to the Sylhet bus stand first.

4. Check Customs Regulations

Upon arrival in Bangladesh, you will go through immigration and customs. Be aware of the following general guidelines:

  • Duty-Free Allowances: Travelers are typically allowed to bring in a certain quantity of personal items duty-free, including limited quantities of cigarettes, alcohol (for non-Muslim travelers), and perfumes.

  • Prohibited Items: Illicit drugs, firearms without proper permits, and certain unprocessed goods are strictly prohibited.

  • Currency Declaration: If carrying large amounts of foreign currency (typically over $10,000 USD or its equivalent), you must declare it upon arrival.

  • For detailed and up-to-date information, please consult the official website of Bangladesh Customs or your country's embassy in Bangladesh.
